Welcome to The Talbot Project
There are exciting plans to invest in the Talbot Village area. This will see new University buildings, enhanced campuses, the sympathetic updating of the historic cottages in the conservation area, and better management of the woodlands and heathland. New flagship projects will be the development of a Digital Village integrated into the University Campuses, and the creation of a Small Business Incubation Unit in an Enterprise Hub. The Talbot Project Master Plan has been prepared to consider projects across the whole of the Talbot Village area covered by the Talbot Village Trust.
The Talbot Project Master Plan looks to the future, with new investment from businesses in a Digital Village, enhancements to the University environs, improvements to the historic cottages and woodland and a long term management plan for the protected heathland. The Universities themselves are strong economic drivers of the local economy, employing over 2000 staff and hosting nearly 20,000 students. Their economic significance to the local economy of Poole, Bournemouth and Dorset cannot be understimated.
Bournemouth University is preparing to submit Planning Applications for new proposals at the Talbot Campus. A new Gateway building, Bus Hub and Link Road from the Boundary Roundabout are included in the proposals. This follows feedback from the Public Consultation, which can be read in the Consultation Report and their latest news can be read in the Estates Bulletin.
Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) has submitted an Outline Planning Application for enhanced Academic Buildings, an Arrivals Pavilion, Student Accommodation and a new Decked Car Park on land to the south of the present University Buildings. This Application is currently live and is expected to be determined by the Borough of Poole in the summer of 2016. The Application was made following a public exhibition in 2015, where local concerns and comments were taken into account.
The changes will take place guided by the planning policies of the local Councils and the support of the local community, to make the area a better place for the residents, the students and the community. The Borough of Poole adopted the Talbot Village Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) in December 2015, which provides a planning framework to deliver the proposals contained in the Talbot Project Master Plan.
Bournemouth Borough Council ran a 6 week consultation for the Talbot Village Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan between January - February 2016. www.bournemouth.gov.uk/talbotvillageconservationarea
