An Outline Planning Application is awaiting determination for new Academic Buildings, an Arrivals Pavilion, new Student Accommodation and a Decked Car Park on land to the south of the present campus, by the Borough of Poole. This application followed a public exhibiton for the community to view the draft proposals in the autumn of 2015.

Background

In 2012 AUB appointed Design Engine to consider the potential for the growth and evolution of the campus at Talbot Village.  The Campus Master Plan recommended an improved identity to the University through its presence and visibility at Fern Barrow; reduced surface car parking; better pedestrian connectivity through the campus; high quality landscaping; the remodelling of existing buildings to improve capacity; and the potential for future growth on land to the south.

The Key Factor:

  • The vision is to enhance the student experience, with the potential for further research knowledge transfer and innovation, which will increase the University’s international profile.

The Enterprise Pavilion at AUB has enabled over 80 small business start-ups; and the University’s reputation is such, that students are highly sought after and often leave the area to seek work opportunities in London.  Both Universities wish to offer further workspace units/pods for post-graduates within Talbot Village to allow them to remain in the local area and grow their small businesses; with the longer term aim of becoming viable businesses and contributing to the economic growth of the area.
